Nirvana's debut album, originally released on June 15, 1989 on Sub Pop Records — recorded over two weekends in December 1988 at Reciprocal Recording in Seattle with producer Jack Endino for just $606.17. Raw, sludgy, and indebted to the Melvins and Black Sabbath, Bleach is a document of a band still finding their voice before the melodic instincts of Nevermind took hold. Initially pressed in just 1,000 copies (with Kurt Cobain, Chris Novoselic, and Chad Channing each reportedly loaning $600 to fund the session), the album went on to be certified platinum.
